Time for a change

Lying in bed last night, unable to sleep, I was silently analysing my lifestyle. I realised that I must spend at least 90% of my day sitting, or lying down:

  • Driving to work every day (30 mins)
  • Working (8 hours)
  • Sitting down at home due to being tired after sitting down at work all day. Usually during this period I'll do some web programming, or work some more.
  • Make dinner. No wait, make far too much dinner. This one involves some standing up.
  • Eat dinner (sitting down again)
  • I might make some music (mostly sitting, but sometimes standing)
  • Play some Xbox
  • Sleep (lying down)

I make too much food for what I actually need, and as a result of all this sitting down and eating too much my tits are too big, my ass is too fat and I can't be bothered to do a lot of things which don't involve sitting down.

This mostly started once I learned to drive; since then I haven't been bothered about standing up.

So, a change of plan is needed. I can't afford to go to a gym, so I'll need to improvise with getting myself motivated to exercise any way I can. I enjoy walking, and some of the walks around where I live are pretty good. I need to watch what I eat and not feel like eating everything put in front of me. I need to not work at home and make more time for other things, like exercise.

I need to eat healthily. To be honest, I don't eat badly anyway, but it can be improved.

My first goal? Just to lose a few kilograms and feel a bit more active. That's a start. My brother's looking trim these days and has decent habits, so if I could be more like him I'll be happy.

Apart from the dodgy haircut and tendancy to steal other people's women, that is.

Wish me luck!

Oh aren't I all responsible an' that!

What am I getting into? 07/08 seems to be the year of change; In the last 6 months I've changed jobs, bought a house and now we have a pair of cats to look after!

Meet Snoop and Squeek:

SnoopySqueek

I've given you the pictures I'll be damned if I can tell which one is which. In fact, the only way we can tell is because of the different coloured collars we put on them. If they happen to both come off at the same time they're going to be very confused after a few weeks.

Anyway, these guys are brothers; two black 15 month-old tomcats, and they're officially great. We've had them since Sunday 27th April and they're already making the house their own. Squeek loves his cuddles and affection, whereas Snoop, whilst still affectionate, cuddley and insane, is a bit more independant and loves to explore. Pictures just cannot do justice as to how cute and at-ease they are. Needless to say they've settled in well, and are definitely people friendly!

In other news this month, I managed to entertain my poor parents with a shoddy roast dinner (I promise it usually turns out OK grrrrr). The chicken and noodle soup turned out better, but does it still count as a soup if you have to eat it with a fork?

Who knows.

Housekeeping

Well, it's Saturday. It's nothing but a time to relax from a week at work and get on with some bits and pieces that I have been meaning to do for ages, such as file away all our letters from the solicitors that have been building up over the last couple of weeks, or throwing out the insurance documents and receipts for cars that I no longer own. I still haven't put the washing in the machine, but the day is far from over. Tonight I'm looking forward to going out to my favourite Italian resturant for our Valentine's meal, and eating a superb "Penne Pane-e-vino" (pasta in a tomatoey sauce with yummy bacon bits).

Some pasta.Incidentally while searching for the exact name of the pasta that's in that dish, I came across the online home of the National Pasta Association. How awesome is that? Pasta has a website! Here you can find out why American pasta is the best pasta in the world, despite the Chinese having effectively invented the stuff and being a national food of Italy for many centuries.

I digress. I also created my music page, and uploaded some new photos!

What did you do today?
